Tom Conroy 8k

On Saturday a large field competed in the Tom Conroy Memorial 8k handicap through the forest behind Scarsdale Primary School. Rebecca Walsh led the field away, while brother Nic was the last to start. Walsh started impressively as did Rachel Mahar. At the half way point Walsh was still leading but Mahar had closed up a significant part of the original 3 minute handicap. Rebecca Wood was storming through the field, as was her sister Louise. As the three leaders ran up the enormous hill at the 6k mark it was thought that Rebecca Wood would catch Walsh. However as the last 1.5 km of the course flattened out Walsh finished strongly to record a 250m win over Rebecca Wood who caught Mahar around 150m from the finish line. Louise Wood (32.41) finished 4th in fastest time for the girls. Back Marker Nic VanRaaphorst (27.55) ran impressively to pass 32 runners and finish 6th overall and record fastest time for the day. Many thanks to Mick and Jenny Ellis for hosting the day.
